Art on Repurposed Surfboards
Surfboard art created by Tom Applegate, was a main feature of yearly surfboard art festivals held for several years in Morro Bay, California. Each original work of art was completed on repurposed surfboards sourced from local surfers in the Morro Bay area. Festival artists found it significantly more meaningful to paint on used surfboards, which bore dents and dings from years of use. The boards themselves carried their own stories and histories, enriching the final artworks.
